CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

March 16, 2020

With the increasing threat of the novel Coronavirus/COVID-19, and after consultation with the school committee, Government Street Christian School will close at the end of business on Wednesday, March 18th. The school will be closed from Thursday, March 19th through Friday, April 3rd. There will be no Before/After School or Holiday Care during this period. As circumstances improve, GSCS will plan to open on Monday, April 6th. Teachers will be on campus Thursday and Friday preparing lessons for distance learning and to do extra cleaning and sanitizing of the classrooms. Each teacher will be in communication with students and parents regarding these plans. Students will not be counted as absent if they do not attend school on Tuesday, March 17, and or Wednesday, March 18th.

Beginning Tuesday, March 17th, faculty, staff, and students entering the building will have their temperature checked. There will be a station at the Welcome Center to check the temperature of every child and staff member plus do a wellness check. Faculty, staff, and students with a temperature over 99°, coughing, running nose will be asked to return home. Parents should observe page 16 of the GSCS Student Handbook.

We are sensitive to the impact that this decision will have on our school families, but we believe it is prudent to act in the interests of safety and health. Our prayer is that everyone will remain healthy and that these precautions will help inhibit the spread of this infection.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah” Psalm 46:1-3
