Inclement weather and school closure.

A reminder regarding inclement weather and school closure.

As per the Student Handbook, page 20, GSCS will follow Mobile County Public Schools regarding a possible closure for Hurricane Ida.  If MCPSS makes an official statement via local news media regarding closure, GSCS will close as well.  If there is a closure, we will inform our parents by Facebook, Headmaster, website news, and teacher communication when GSCS will resume classes.

Our COVID policy

Dear Parents,

Thank you for being a part of Government Street Christian School.  Our staff have been planning and preparing for a successful school year.  As we have now commenced this academic year, we want to remind you of our COVID policy.  The policy is based on guidance by Alabama Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control.  Please note that this guidance is subject to change depending on the status of COVID-19 in Mobile County.  For more detailed information regarding this guidance visit Schools K-12 | Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) (alabamapublichealth.gov)  or   Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) | CDC.

Contact Tracing and Quarantine Requirements-The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) recommend wearing masks.  If a student or faculty member test positive for COVID-19, we will conduct contact tracing to determine those students and or faculty that meet the standards for close contact.  A school employee or staff member will notify close contacts directly and provide instructions related to quarantine or isolation.

  • Individuals who test positive for or are diagnosed with COVID-19 must stay home for 10 days following the onset of symptoms or the positive test result, be 24 hours without fever or fever-reducing medications, and experience symptom improvement before returning from isolation.
  • Students, faculty, and staff considered to be close contacts will be quarantined for 10 days. A close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period with the following exceptions:
  • Faculty, staff, and students (age 12 or older) who are considered close contacts and vaccinated do not have to quarantine.
  • If both the infected individual and close contact who’s 3 feet or more from the infected person and both are wearing mask, the asymptomatic person does not have to quarantine.
  • If a close contact has tested positive for and recovered from COVID-19 in the prior 3 months, they do not have to quarantine unless they develop symptoms.
  • To reduce the possibility of any communitive illness spreading to an entire class, parents should follow the guidelines listed on page 7 of the Student Handbook. On campus we will continue to sanitize classrooms, practice social distancing, wearing masks in common areas.

Again, we are looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year.  We thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding.  If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Respectively,

Bryan Townsend

Principal
